The BFI‘s London Film Festival is a refreshingly different kind of festival. It is far reaching, diverse and reflects London’s own belief that everyone is welcome. This spirit led us to a new strategy and a new creative idea – Modern Heritage.

Our visual identity was inspired by a forgotten asset - the original Norman Engleback logo that has sat quietly on the side of BFI’s listed Southbank building since 1954.

It was time to bring it to the fore of the Festival's branding.

Inspired by the debut couture collection of nascent fashion designer Vincent Lapp, DBLG’s film explores the connection between form and elemental forces, taking the viewer on an arresting visual journey. To mark the start of London Fashion week 2019 the film was designed to be shown simultaneously across three huge portrait screens immersing the audience in coloured light and surround sound.

The film subsequently won Nick Knights prestigious SHOWStudio Fashion Film Award.

The Music

Music for the film is composed by experimental choral trio Blood Moon Project. Approaching the film in chapters they interpreted each of the garments graphic language as instrumentation blending synths, salvaged church organs and percussion.

As a gift everyone attending the event also received a limited edition 7” vinyl single, which we designed of course.
